Katharina Grosse

Wandlungen

Four pictures by Katharina Grosse (born 1961) painted between 1998 and 2018 reflect the versatility of this artist who can be considered today’s most important colour field painter. In her work, colour often moves beyond the canvas, extending out into the space as a sculptural volume – rather than being tamed, colour appears here as a challenge.

Grosse studied with Johannes Brus, Norbert Tadeusz and Gotthard Graubner at the academies in Münster and Düsseldorf (1982–1990). She taught at Weissensee School of Art and Design in Berlin (2000–2010) and was professor of painting at the Düsseldorf Academy (2010–2018).
