In 2016, Neues Museum created a space for film and video art as a permanent venue for this important medium. In 2018, under the theme of A World Turned Upside Down, the museum is showing work by AES+F, Till Nowak, Yang Fudong and Almagul Menlibayeva, each for a period of three months. They destabilize familiar views and call perceptions and established conditions into question, in sometimes humorous and sometimes very serious ways.
With Lock Again, Yang Fudong (born 1971) shows an enigmatic love triangle between two young men in white uniforms and a girl in a pink dress. What initially looks like an action film turns out to be a fantasy world. The supposed dream ends with a boat in a swimming pool, as reality reflects sadness and hopelessness.
