A world turned upside down (Quarter 1)

AES+F, Inverso Mundus

Pigs cutting up a butcher, a child punishing its teacher, women and men in switched roles, a beggar in rags giving alms to a rich man: based on medieval engravings and drawings showing absurd situations that already inspired artists like the Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch, their amusing and tragic motifs are transferred here to our time. A reinterpretation of reality in film, a kind of poetic vision, in familiar surrealist manner.

AES+F is a Russian artists’ collective consisting of Tatiana Arzamasova (b. 1955), Lev Evzovich (b. 1958), Evgeny Svyatsky (b. 1957) and Vladimir Fridkes (b. 1956). They live in Moscow. Since the end of the 1980s, their work has been seen around the world in major biennials (56th Venice Biennial, 6th Moscow Biennial) and exhibitions (ZKM Karlsruhe; Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Tate Britain, London; Russian Museum, St. Petersburg).
