Showing initiative

It sounds like a citizens’ initiative and originally it was one: the Museumsinitiative bears its history in its name. And it does so proudly, becauser without the commitment of Nuremberg’s citizens the Neues Museum probably would not exist. Today, as a society of friends and patrons, the Museumsinitiative continues to support the museum’s work.

The society sees collecting art as its most important task. Since its founding in 1987, it has acquired around 200 works. The museum’s 25-year anniversary will be marked by an exhibition in the façade spaces, illustrating the collecting activity of the Museumsinitiative via selected examples.

Using their smartphones or tablets, visitors can access a multimedia guide with interesting and varied background information about the Museumsinitiative, the works on show, and the artists. Accessible in the museum itself or at home, the guide will be launched during the anniversary weekend.

The exhibition opening will take place as part of the anniversary celebrations on Saturday, 22 February 2025 from 6 pm.
