Carbon in Design

For more than three decades, due to outstanding properties such as low weight, high tensile strength, and resistance to chemicals and heat, carbon fibres have been used in aerospace engineering, bicycle and vehicle construction, but also in medical technology. In design, carbon was used above all in bicycles, but later also in furniture building. The work of Ron Arad, Konstantin Grcic and Ross Lovegrove, among others, reveals the innovative potential of this material of the future in a unique way. The prize-wining “Gridboard” from HYVE uses carbon to achieve maximum lightness and material economy.
