For the eighth time, Neues Museum is showing an exhibition of the previous year’s 100 best posters from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Showcasing the latest in poster design, it draws on a competition organized every year by “100 Beste Plakate e. V.”: more than 650 designers, clients and printers submitted around 2300 individual posters and poster series from which an international jury selected the best one hundred design concepts for the year 2017.
The competition presents the diversity of the poster medium – a medium which, hung in public spaces or conveying a visual message in an artistic vein, is managing to defy the growth of digitization.
The winners regularly include both motifs that play with minimalist forms and typography, and densely worked designs, as well as a preference for designs showing a preference for black-and-white or bright colours. Once again this year, the 100 best posters reflect the vitality of poster culture, inviting viewers on a many-facetted tour of current poster design.
