In the collection rooms there is an emphasis on regular change. The selection of exhibited items alters constantly, and rearrangements repeatedly create different associations, while independent presentations in the collection halls make for a startling change of perspective. Amongst other things, there is a focus in the collection on works by East European artists, international works of geometric abstraction and Concrete Art, Fluxus and installation art.
In a unique format that has to look far to find its equal, Neues Museum Nuremberg shows art and design side by side under one museum roof. As such, Neues Museum takes a logical step in the presentation of its two collections.
With a harmonious themed concept, it continues the trail that Volker Staab's architectural design blazes. Modern museum architecture meets historical city walls, interior and exterior blend in the mirror of the curving glass façade, opposite poles complement each other and create new space.
In the extensive collection and exhibition area Neues Museum shows art and design from the 1950s to the present day on over 3,000 square meters of exhibition space.
At Neues Museum we attach great value to change. Not only the selection of exhibits presented in the collection is continually changed, but individual pieces are constantly rearranged and as such put into new contexts.
In addition, new presentations of the collection regularly enable surprising changes of perspective and an intense exploration of thematic focuses.
We often ask artists and designers to develop their own room installations.
With special events accompanying our collection presentations we warmly invite you to enter into dialog anew with the art and design collections.
We look forward to welcoming you at our openings and accompanying events.
The core of the art collection is the collection of international contemporary art of the City of Nuremberg, compiled since 1967. It has recently expanded by various private foundations and loans as well as a large number of new acquisitions.
By means of selected highlights, the presentation illuminates important stages in the development of international art history from the mid-20th century to the present day.
The focal points of the collection include works by East European artists, international works of geometric abstraction and Concrete Art, Fluxus and installation art.
The design section is a cooperative project with Die Neue Sammlung - The Design Museum.
